Students from Delaware Technical Community College are preparing to host their fourth annual “Multimedia Showcase” on Wednesday, April 25 at the Milton Theater.

Rob Rector, Delaware Tech communication department chair, said that the showcase is a collection of all the best work in photography, videography, and graphic design done by the students of Delaware Tech’s Communication Program.

“It’s an opportunity for our students to feel like rock stars for a night.” Rector said, “I think it’s important to demonstrate our works in a public setting outside the college because that’s what this business is all about anyway.”

Rector said that the communications department tries to do something different every year, experimenting with both augmented and virtual reality in earlier showcases.

“This year we decided to live stream the entire event,” Rector said, “we are putting forth the same production values behind the scenes of something that you would hopefully see televised”.

Rector said that past audiences have included state senators, college dignitaries, as well as friends and family. He also stated that the communications department tries to keep the event free and open to the public.

“we sent invites to a lot of local business as well”, rector said, “we have actually had job offers on the spot based on the materials they’ve seen produced for the event”

Chelsea Wootten, Delaware Tech Educational Lab Specialist, who has had work featured in past showcases and who also been one of the show runners for the event said they only pick the best of the best work in the program.

“Anything that has been givin a lot of detail, a lot of time to put together is always considered for the showcase.” Wootten explained.

Wooten said, “my favorite part of the showcase is getting to see everybody come together and celebrate each other’s work.”

“it’s a really stressful period,” Wooten said, “no matter what happens, at the end of the night we all get to hang out and spend time together and see all of our work come together”.

Willie Brown, the communications department intern, said that as an intern he has helped create different videos to go into the live show including promo videos and student interviews.

“We are gonna have two cameras set up during the interview section,” said Brown, “we’re gonna have an extra I-Pad roaming around getting more footage.”

Brown also said that a camera was going to be down by the stage to capture the creative writing students, the video projects, and the graduates as they go on stage.

“don’t bother bringing socks cause they’re going to be knocked off.” Brown said when speaking about his own video, “The Goal”, that is going to be featured in this year’s showcase.

“I like the videos,” Brown said when asked about his favorite part about the past events, “when you get to know the people that have the videos you get to see their vision.”

“Each person is really distinct,” Brown said, “When you see their artwork it really reflects who they are as a person.”

Brown said that the stream will be held on its own YouTube channel that can be accessed by going on the site directly, or by scanning a QR code that is located on the tickets and the posters for the event.

The doors to the Milton Theater, 110 Union St., open at 6 p.m. and the live stream starts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
